Based at the Findhorn Ecovillage, the Local Economic Forum will be launched in June 2017 as a partnership between the Findhorn Foundation and the Sustainable Development Organisation.

This will be the first in a series of invitation-only events intended to serve as a forum for sharing of ideas, technology and community learningrelating to the challenges facing society today and the neglected local and personal perspective on them.

Rising inequality, a worldwide housing affordability crisis, and the revelation that those who earn the most in society are often avoiding their fair share of taxation have called into doubt the nature of the economic system that has underpinned every aspect of the world we live in. Since the 2008 recession there has been an appetite amongst the wider population to better understand and see reform within the financial system that facilitates our everyday lives whilst the sector itself has begun to change fundamentally with the advent of block chain and other technologies coupled with a new client appetite for sustainable and ethical investments. Digital assets, local currencies and the myriad of possibilities opened up by decentralised technology mean that with popular will, the boundaries of the traditional economy and its institutions are beginning to be bypassed.

Have technology and globalisation brought the financial system to a critical inflection point?
